NAIOP NC Announces 2017 Award Winners at Statewide Conference

NAIOP North Carolina, comprised of NAIOP Charlotte, NAIOP Piedmont Triad, and NAIOP Raleigh Durham, held its annual statewide conference March 30-31, 2017 at the Pinehurst Resort, where over 250 commercial real estate professionals were in attendance. At the conference, NAIOP NC announced the 2017 award winners, recognizing individuals and companies who positively influence our community and industry.

2017 Award Winners

Large Project of the Year – The Center for Technology and Innovation submitted by CBRE | Raleigh
CTI is a $30M, mixed- use lab, production and Class A office facility with deck parking situated on an in-fill corner location at NCSU Centennial Campus in Raleigh. The building is home to the NCSU Nonwovens Institute (NWI), a global research consortium serving the textiles industry and backed by 50 of the world’s largest textile and chemical companies. Building was developed by Keystone Corporation.

Small Project of the Year – The Shevell Building submitted by DH Griffin Construction Company
A Historic restoration of 15,000 sf building at 532 S Elm Street in downtown Greensboro. The 3-story building was completely gutted, including much of the existing framing. The original stamped tin ceilings on the first floor were restored and replaced, along with the original hardwood flooring throughout the 3rd floor. Along with those salvaged items, the masonry repairs and restorations, new windows and the interior and exterior finishes throughout the building were period replica, as required to allow the Owner, Andy Zimmerman, qualify for the Historic Tax Credits.

Developer of the Year – Highwoods Properties
This award is given to a company that demonstrates consistent excellence in the quality of projects within their portfolio; supports Commercial Real Estate Industry through NAIOP by active participation of programs and initiatives; and has at least 15 years of quality investment and sustainable positive economic impact in North of South Carolina. This year’s winner is a NAIOP champion and a leader in NC development. The company has NAIOP members in both the Triad and Raleigh chapters, is a continuous financial supporter of NAIOP donating PAC and sponsorship funds, and has leadership members on NAIOP forums, boards, and committees. Recent NC projects include PNC Tower in downtown Raleigh, CentreGreen V, Raleigh-Cary, and Enterprise Park in Greensboro.

Developing Leader of the Year – Jenny Fowler, Childress Klein
Jenny has served as the Developing Leaders chair for NAIOP Charlotte during 2016. Her efforts to initiate meaningful activities for DL members include creating DL member only sessions with senior real estate professionals, networking meetings, and community outreach. In 2016, the DL
membership has moved from 23% of the chapter membership to 37% and has been the main attraction for new members.

Member of the Year (Raleigh Durham) – Paul Meyers, Fifth Third Bank
As a NAIOP member for more than 11 years, Paul has been an active board member for five years and most recently serves as the 2017 chapter treasurer. Paul Meyers is a Senior Vice President for Fifth Third Bank. In this role, he oversees commercial real estate relationships for markets in Central/Eastern North Carolina and is based in Raleigh, NC.

Member of the Year (Piedmont Triad) – Reggie Beeson, Highwoods Properties
Reggie joined NAIOP in 2005 and was elected to the NAIOP Piedmont Triad board of directors the same year. He has been an active board member in many capacities continuously throughout the last 13 years, including chapter president, and currently serves on the board of directors and as sponsorship co-chair. Reggie has over 17 years of experience in brokerage and real estate management. At Highwoods, he oversees leasing, new
business development and client relations.

Member of the Year (Charlotte) – Chris Thomas, Childress Klein
Chris joined NAIOP in 2011 bringing a voice of retail to the organization. He served as chapter president in 2014 and presently serves as the Past President’s Liaison on the board. Chris is immersed in advocating for NAIOP’s position on the repeal of the Protest Petition, HB2 and funding of JDIG. Chris is the Partner responsible for the development, marketing and leasing of retail and real estate projects in the Carolinas at Childress Klein.
