Bike-Share Brings New Options for Tenants

Bike-shares systems are en vogue – and real estate developers, facilities managers and owners are considering how to best add the amenity to both new and existing office, mixed-use and multifamily properties.

The investment and space needed are surprisingly low: a 10-bike system can be had for $10,000, including racks, security and operation software. Its footprint is roughly the size of a single parking space.

For office campuses, bike-shares offer convenience for traveling between buildings, and millennials and environmentally-conscious tenants appreciate an option that encourages exercise and reduces traffic congestion.

NAIOP’s Market Share blog covered the topic last year, sharing bike-share provider Zagster’s partnership with NAI Hiffman and forthcoming “bike-through” window at a Portland retail plaza.
